Public Spheres are very common and in a variety of places at the University of Southern Indiana. It is a place where someone can go and conversate about a mutual interest or vent about an issue in a public setting.
They include coffee shops, libraries, blogs, newspapers, social networking websites, restuarants, school board meetings or any other type of social gathering to discuss a topic. In my opinion, they are crucial to making progress in many areas. If several opinions are gathered in one meeting, then it will be easier to analyze all of the information and come to a common ground or agreement. Having a process like this will definitely help many things get resolved quicker.
Examples of public spheres at USI are Starbucks, the group meeting rooms in the Rice Library, bulletin boards in classrooms, the LED ticker out of the PAC, the USI television channel, and the recreation center. The school is also building a technology building that will likely have gathering spaces in it as well. They differ in format by how you access them, such as through television, driving, or walking to class. For example, if you are interested in sports games, you would receive information from the LED ticker out of the PAC. If you are looking for information regarding a event for a club, it would likely be posted on a bulletin board outside of or around a classroom.
